Crown Lengthening

There are some occasions where there is excess gum or bone tissues present around a tooth which can lead to it looking visibly shorter or make it challenging for your dentist to place a filling or a crown on the tooth reliably. Crown lengthening is a procedure whereby these excess gum and bone tissues are removed, polished or recontoured to enable improved aesthetics and ease of restoration.
The procedure is usually performed under local anaesthetics (numbing) and can take 1-2 hours, depending on the number of areas involved. Generally, even though only one tooth may need the procedure, neighbouring teeth are included to allow the tissues to be reshaped gradually and facilitate the creation of natural contours and aesthetics.
