Canine Exposure

Canine Exposure

Canines, also known as eye teeth, are the slightly pointed teeth that are located on either side of the incisor teeth at the front of our mouths. These teeth are important for biting and speaking as well as smiling. The canine usually emerges into the mouth between the ages of 11 and 13. However, on some occasions, these teeth may develop in the wrong position and are unable to erupt into the mouth at the right time.

Often, the management of this issue requires a combination of orthodontic treatment (braces) by your orthodontist as well as seeing us at Westside Perio and Implants for an exposure (uncovering) of this tooth to facilitate its emergence into the mouth and enable it to be aligned with the adjacent teeth.
